Arsenal are one of seven clubs Kylian Mbappe should join if he wants to leave a legacy like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

That is the view of former Gunners and France striker Nicolas Anelka.

At the age of just 22, Mbappe has already won multiple Ligue 1 titles, scored in a World Cup final – whilst also lifting football’s biggest prize with France in the summer of 2018.

In doing so, he would follow in the footsteps of some footballing greats including Messi, Ronaldo as well as compatriots Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane.

But in order for Mbappe to achieve this dream, he has been told by Anelka to leave France and test himself in one of the ‘best leagues’ in the world.

“If you want the biggest accolades, you will have to move from PSG at some point,” Anelka wrote in his column for The Athletic. “Whatever you will do in Paris will be good but somebody will always say, ‘Well, you did great for PSG but it was only in France.

“‘The best leagues are in England and Spain, so you didn’t compete with the best players in the best league’.

“You will have to decide. If you want to win the Ballon d’Or, which is what you should be looking at to echo Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, you will have to compete with the best.

“You can’t say you compete with the best all the time when you are at PSG. The French league is not easy, don’t get me wrong, but I think the toughest league is in England.

For Anelka to name Arsenal as one of the clubs Mbappe should consider joining after leaving PSG will certainly come as a surprise to many.

But prior to sealing a £166million to the Parc des Princes in 2017, Mbappe confirmed he held talks with Arsene Wenger after the Gunners made enquiries, about signing him.

“I met with Arsene Wenger, who is a great coach,” said Mbappe after his move to the French capital. “He has a great reputation here in France, he’s well-respected and knows how to develop young players. This was a real option for me.
