THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE ON THE 7-DAY ULTIMATUM GIVEN TO HERDSMEN TO VACATE STATE FOREST RESERVES.
The umbrella body for all Akoko Youth home and abroad, Akoko Youth Forum (AYF) use this medium to express it total support and solidarity with the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu on his Executive Order that herdsmen should vacate Ondo State reserves.
Recall that in the Governor’s statement on Monday 18th January, 2021, he issued an Order of 7-day ultimatum to all unregistered herdsmen to vacate the State Forest reserves. He also banned night grazing and movement of herds along the highways obviously in response to the heinous, nefarious, atrocious and vicious activities of criminal herders. The criminal activities committed by majorly bad Fulani herdsmen ranges from killing, kidnapping, maiming destruction of farmlands among others; and farming is the major occupation of our people, accounting about 50-60%. These people can no longer go to farm due to these criminal activities while the perpetrators use this Forest reserves as a hideouts.
There is no gainsaying that all the major roads in Ondo State are not safe for travels; all the way from Isua-Akunu, Okeluse-Owo, Ore-Ijebu-ode, Akure-Ijuta Ogbolu. Ore-Igbokoda to mention but few. We are saying enough is enough.
We would recall that
Chief Olu Falae, former Secretary and Finance minister of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, his farmland worth millions of naira was destroyed and later he himself kidnapped.
A member of staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic was Kidnapped along Akure/Owo road, three staff of Federal Medical centre Owo including a pregnant woman was also kidnapped, daughter of PA Fasoranti, Mrs Olakunrin was killed by the bad Fulani herdsmen ravaging our forest and very recently too, a First Class monarch; Oba Isreal Adeusi the Olufon of Ifon in Ose local government was killed while coming from a meeting in Akure just to mention but few.
The Akoko youth Forum (AYF) throws weight behind the Governor on the applaudable and commendable decision taking to wipe out criminal elements from our forest reserve. We urge his to stand resolute and that he should not reverse his decision based on distractions and ill responses from the presidency particularly Mallam Garuba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and publicity.
We are solidly behind him.
