Barcelona’s turbulent season has had a huge positive in the form of Ansu Fati, with the teenager emerging as a star for now as well as the future as well as being in line to break Spanish football’s U17 goalscoring record.
At 17 years old, Ansu Fati already has six goals in LaLiga Santander with the first coming against Osasuna when he was still 16, which broke Bojan Krkic’s record as the youngest ever scorer in the top flight.
He quickly became the youngest goalscorer in the Champions League at 17 years and 40 days old, when he found the net against Inter.
Ansu Fati is five goals behind Pablo Pombo Quintana, who in 1933/34 scored 11 goals in Spanish football before he hit 18 years old.
Ansu Fati has every chance to break that record with his birthday not coming until October 31, 2020, and the individual who has come closest since Quintana was actually the aforementioned Bojan.
In 2007/08, the La Masia graduate hit 10 goals before his 18th birthday, whilst Raul Gonzalez only managed nine goals for Real Madrid’s senior team in 1994/95.
Ansu Fati is still waiting on a contract renewal at the Camp Nou which will tie him to the club for a number of his best years, but it hasn’t hindered his football as he has scored twice since the restart.
