APC National Chairman Ganduje Asks Northern Politicians To Drop 2027 Presidential Ambition

His statement appeared to counter former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who hinted in a post on his verified X handle that the North could replicate its 2015 treatment of President Goodluck Jonathan against Tinubu in 2027.
Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has told northern politicians eyeing the presidency in 2027 to abandon their ambitions, claiming that President Bola Tinubu will serve two full terms.
His statement appeared to counter former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who hinted in a post on his verified X handle that the North could replicate its 2015 treatment of President Goodluck Jonathan against Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking on Tuesday while hosting leaders of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre (PBAT Media Centre) and Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF) at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje dismissed any possibility of a northern presidency before 2031.
“When a leader from the North governed for eight years, we pushed for the next president to come from the South,” he stated.
“With hard work and cooperation from Nigerians, we achieved that. Our president is from the South and, inshallah, will complete his second term in 2027. After that, power will return to the North.”
Ganduje reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to power rotation, ensuring a fair balance between the North and South.
He acknowledged the country’s challenges, attributing them to long-standing issues that require time and serious intervention.
“There is no doubt that many things went wrong over a long period, and fixing them requires serious intervention,” he said.
The APC chairman expressed confidence in Tinubu’s policies, stating that economic improvements were already taking shape.
