Barcelona do not want Luis Suarez to join Atletico Madrid on a free transfer this summer.
It seemed as though the striker had reached an agreement with the Catalan club to rescind the final year of his contract to leave for free and, as a result, Suarez had agreed personal terms with Atletico on a two-year deal worth nine million euros after tax per year.
However, according to Onda Cero’s ‘El Transistor’ programme, Barcelona don’t want Suarez to go fellow title challengers Atletico.
They made a list of vetoed landing spots for the striker in the event of rescinding his contract and Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City featured on this list, but Atletico Madrid reportedly did not.
Yet Barcelona have now changed their mind.
If his Atletico move falls through, Suarez is considering staying at Barcelona, despite Ronald Koeman wanting to get rid of him in this window.
This all means that Diego Simeone, who personally called Suarez to persuade him to move to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, now has to find a different striker in the transfer market.
With Alvaro Morata leaving, Atletico Madrid are now said to be considering Edinson Cavani, having been linked with Suarez’s international teammate on a number of occasions before.
