In a bid to curb and discourage truancy and indiscipline among the Secondary School students in the Community, the leadership of Iwaro Youth Council (IYC) paid an unscheduled visit to St Patrick’s College Oka and Esedo Comprehensive High School Iwaro Oka respectively; sought collaborative efforts with tutors to curb these growing norm and weird menace among students of the town.
While addressing the students at their assembly sessions, the President of the Council Mr Bolorunduro Augustine and her Secretary Mr Bolaji Kehinde Matthew said truancy, hanging around town during school hours, smoking and consumption of prohibited drugs, cultism among other forms of indiscipline and criminal activities should be stopped forthwith. Admonishing the students to be of good conducts and ambassadors of their parents and their respective homes, the President warned that any student or group caught during School hours without genuine reasons, fomenting trouble or engaging in any of the aforementioned acts capable of truncating their future and the future of the town will henceforth be handed over to law enforcement agents.
One of the members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) to the Council Ben Afolami said that the reports of all sorts of criminal behaviour and activities and the unreadiness to learn by the students of the community in recent times is unprecedented, mind bogglingly and a big cause for fear, concerns and alarm. He added that it is now very important and imperative for Community intervention.
The leadership of the council implore the management of both Schools to continue to do their job diligently as they were assured of full community support, and were encouraged to report to the Youth body whenever they encounter challenges from students and parents alike.
One of the Vice Principals of SPC and Esedo, Mr Omolore Francis and Mr. Asere respectively while thanking the youths for the bold and giant step, pleaded with the youth to do a follow up of this noble gesture. They said with this assurance of Community support and backing, the management and Staff are going to step up their game in combating indiscipline among pupils.
