Two suspects accused of assaulting a police officer have been arraigned by the Ondo State Police Command.

The suspects, Stanley Idehen, 31, and Blessing Sandra Odungbe, appeared before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, facing a three-count charge of assault.

Police prosecutor, Adebayo Sulaiman told the court that the defendants seriously assaulted a police officer while he was performing his lawful duty.

The defendants were alleged to have conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by assaulting policemen on duty.

Adebayo further alleged that the defendants assaulted one SC Adeyemi Michael by beating him, dragging him on the ground, and inflicting injuries on his body while he was performing his lawful duty.

The prosecutor said the offences were committed on October 5, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m. at Ijapo Estate Gate, Akure.

He added that the offences contravened Sections 249(b), 356(2), and 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Adebayo stated that four witnesses would testify in the case and requested an adjournment to enable him to assemble the witnesses and review the case file.

The defence counsel, Kehinde Osadugba, did not oppose the request and applied for bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that the defendants would provide credible sureties.

Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate ordered that the sureties must submit affidavits of means, provide two passport photographs each (of themselves and the accused), and show evidence of gainful employment attached to the bail bond.

He also directed the sureties to deposit N500,000 each as bond, payable into the High Court registry for the complainant’s benefit.

The court further directed the orderly and registrar to verify the sureties’ addresses.

The case was adjourned until November 19, 2025, for hearing.
