Governor Bello Matawalle has accused some bandits of deception, says he has adopted a new security strategy to keep residents safe

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has warned bandits in the state to repent or face severe action. The governor on Saturday, April 24, stated that he has drawn a new roadmap in his approach to handling the issue of security challenges facing the state, according to a statement from his spokesman, Yusuf Gusau, Channels TV reported.

Matawalle disclosed that the recent suspension of a district head in Shinkafi emirate for conniving with bandits was one of the new measures he has decided to implement. He vowed that in the next four days, he will overwhelm bandits who are troubling citizens in the state.

Daily Trust reported that the governor stated that he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari and the service chiefs about his new approach to security. He said the deceptive and unrepentant bandits will be dealt with seriously with the new measures.

Meanwhile, armed bandits have laid siege in Zamfara state as over 100 citizens have been killed by the rampaging gunmen within the week. Many more residents are also missing after the carnage by the terrorists across the state. The killings became too frequent, prompting a reaction from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Experts say the president must go beyond warning the bandits and start matching words with actions by going after them.
