The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, joined retired police officers and other activists on Monday, July 21 in a protest in Abuja, demanding better welfare and an immediate exit from the contributory pension scheme.

The demonstration, led by the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, commenced at the National Assembly Complex and is expected to continue to the Force Headquarters.

The retirees condemned the contributory pension scheme, calling it “discriminatory” and “exploitative,” and alleged that many of their colleagues had died without receiving their full retirement benefits.
